Six Durban policemen have been arrested on allegations of sexual assault, house robbery and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate says five of the men were arrested at Cavendish SAPS last night while a sixth suspect handed himself in this morning.
They are accused of sexually assaulting a man with a broom, before severely beating him.
The suspects, who are part of Protection Security Services in Malvern, have also been accused of working with members of the public to rob homeowners.
The Directorate's Moses Dlamini says the five warrant officers and one constable allegedly planted drugs and weapons in homes and forced the owners to pay them to avoid being arrested.
"We also found drugs as well as ammunition, so we're going to add charges of illegal possession of ammunition and drugs.
"The policemen are appearing in court today and the State is going to oppose bail," he said.
