MEC ‘rejected’ call for cop brutality inquiry

Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko on Tuesday rejected calls for a commission
of inquiry into police brutality, according to the DA.
“The MEC, in
response to my oral question, indicated that she does not want to duplicate the
work of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate or community policing
forums and youth desks at police stations,” Democratic Alliance MPL Kate
Lorimer said in a statement.
“The DA
maintains that a comprehensive investigation is necessary to determine the
extent of police brutality and the reasons for the breakdown in relations
between communities and the police.”
Spokesperson
for the department of community safety, Thapelo Moiloa, could not immediately
be reached for comment……
