Three police members attached to the Pafuri Port of Entrance appeared in court on Thursday after they were arrested on a charge of corruption.
The members were arrested following intensive investigations after information was received that they are assisting suspects in smuggling stolen motor vehicles across the border in return for payment.
They were arrested early Thursday morning and appeared in the Makhado Magistrates’ Court on a charge of corruption in the afternoon. Warrant Officer Mukondeleli Mutele (45) and Constable Vogani Percy Baloyi (30) were released on R15 000 bail and Constable Mamaye Cynthia Masete (32) received R3 000 bail. The case was remanded to 27 March for further investigation.
The processes to suspend them from the South African Police Service are already in process.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in the province, Lt Gen Fannie Masemola stressed that there will be no mercy for members of the SAPS who are arrested for their involvement in criminal activities. “We will work tirelessly to rid the Service of members who involve themselves in corruption and criminal activities. There is no place for members who work with criminals in the SAPS,” he reiterated.
