Traffic chief hands himself over to police

The man allegedly shot and killed his wife and two children

NELSPRUIT – A Chief Traffic Officer who was wanted for allegedly killing his family, handed himself over to police. Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality in Siyabuswa, Mr Joseph Ezekiel Selala (Mogale) aged 42, who was wanted for allegedly shooting and killing his two children, aged between 8 and 12, together with his 45-year-old estranged wife, handed himself over to the police this morning.
Since the incident took place on Saturday, December 7, at approximately 05:00 in Siyabuswa, the suspect has since been on the run and in the process, a warrant of arrest was issued against him.
According to police spokesman Col Leonard Hlathi, an intensive search for him was launched immediately after the incident until he handed himself over to the Siyabuswa police station while accompanied by his legal representative.
The suspect allegedly fatally shot his two children while they were asleep, and then drove to Siyabuswa C, where his wife was staying, and also fatally shot her.
The suspect will appear before the Mdutjane Magistrate’s Court in Siyabuswa tomorrow, January 7.
In the meantime the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Meshack Nogwanya has expressed his appreciation on the hard work and dedication displayed by our detectives in ensuring that the suspect was brought to book.
