Police on manhunt for prisoners

Awaiting trail prisoners escape while being escorted to correctional facility.

BETHAL- Members of the police are on a manhunt for two awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from lawful custody while they were escorted to Bethal Correctional Service on August 29.
The pair Zakhele Nkambule (34) and Malibongwe Sydwell Butatshe (37) together with other two prisoners were from Evander Magistrate’s Court to the prison in Bethal when they apparently cut off the steels at the back of the rear window of the bakkie, smashed the glass window, and escaped.
Police managed to re-arrest the other two while Nkambule and Butatshe fled from the scene.
“An internal probe is underway to determine the circumstances which led to their getaway,” said Col Leonard Hlathi.
Anyone with information that could lead to the re-arrest of these escapees may contact Capt Abraham Kubo at 082 065 1299.
