The High Court in Pretoria will on Thursday hand down judgement in the murder case of a North West police officer accused of shooting and killing three people during a water shortage protest in Mothotlung near Brits in January last year(2014).

In August, the state argued that there's sufficient evidence to link the accused to the killings. Investigations into the death of the fourth victim are yet to be completed.

The state said in closing arguments in August that evidence before the court suggests all the deceased died as a result of being shot.

Warrant Officer Hyde Mophosho is facing three murder charges. It's alleged that he used his service firearm to shoot and kill Enock Seimela, Osiah Rahube, and Mike Tshele during community protest against water shortages.

Mophosho, who's out on bail, has since been expelled from the police service following an internal disciplinary hearing that found him guilty of misconduct.

His co-accused, Warrant Officer Dexter Lesolang, had all the charges against him withdrawn at the start of the trial in May 2015.
