JOHANNESBURG – A 46-year-old police officer from the Mondeor police station, in the south of Johannesburg, has been arrested for allegedly raping his colleague's teenage daughter, said the Independent Police Investigative Directorate's spokesperson Grace Langa.

The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon at the officer’s residence in Vosloorus.

Langa said: “The young girl had been sent to deliver the officer's shirt when he raped her in his bedroom around 5pm.”

A neighbour and colleague said the wife of the 46-year-old officer – who has a history of domestic violence – had left him.

“The mother of the teenager had ironed the officer’s shirt and had sent the teenager to deliver it to him. When she got into the house, the officer is said to have raped her,” said Langa.

The girl opened a case of rape at the Vosloorus police station yesterday.

The officer was arrested in a drunken state last night and held at the police station.

He is expected to appear in court on Thursday.
