Durban - A 14-year-old girl who had been brutally beaten by her father was allegedly raped by a policeman when she turned to the law for help.
The girl was allegedly beaten up by her father on Wednesday for being in possession of a cellphone he did not know about, and on which there were “dirty” text messages from her boyfriend.
After hiding, she eventually managed to run away from her furious father. She then met people who accompanied her to the local police station in Tugela Ferry, in uMsinga, to open a case against her father.
But instead of being helped, she was allegedly raped twice by a policeman in his barracks.
The girl, from Esinqumeni, found four policemen inside the police station, but three of them decided to leave.
She was then left stranded with the remaining policeman, who allegedly took her to his room. When they got there, the policeman allegedly forced himself on the helpless girl.
The policeman then left her locked inside the barracks.
It is alleged the same policeman returned and raped her again, but she managed to run away. She reported the incident to “the day shift” police, who opened a case against their colleague.
Major Thulani Zwane confirmed that a 14-year-old girl had allegedly been raped at the police station on May 20 at about 2am when she went to report an assault.
“She was taken to hospital for medical attention. Charges of rape were laid at Msinga police station, and the suspect was arrested. He will be charged for rape and will appear in court soon.”
The girl was apparently still a virgin before the rape.
At the time of going to press, the girl was recovering from the alleged beating, rape and trauma at the Church of Scotland, where she is receiving treatment and counselling.
When her mother was contacted, she refused to talk.
