A policeman assigned to the Beit Bridge border post has been arrested by the Hawks after soliciting a bribe, Limpopo police said yesterday.

“The warrant officer, who works in the vehicle identification section at Beit Bridge, was handling a case in which a Gauteng-based suspect was arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle,” Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said.

The policeman allegedly asked for a R10 000 bribe to assist the man with his case. The man reported the incident to the police, and the Hawks arrested the policeman in Musina on Friday with R10 000 in his possession.

Since the beginning of the year, 52 police officers have been arrested in Limpopo and charged with corruption. – Sapa
