PRETORIA - Officers were also facing charges of corruption after police arrested them in their Mamelodi offices yesterday.

The arrests followed a motorist’s complaint that six officers stopped him in Garsfontein in the early hours of Friday morning.

Metro police spokesman Lekgantshi Tleane said it was alleged officers accused him of driving under the influence of alcohol, which he confessed to.

“Officers allegedly told the motorist that they would not arrest him if he gives them money. They allegedly accompanied him to the nearest ATM where he allegedly gave them a R1 000,” said Tleane.

The motorist then opened a corruption case against the six officers at the Villieria police station.

Tleane said two officers were positively identified when they reported on duty yesterday. “The two identified three other officers who were part of the group.”
