'Drunk' cop slams into family's car

Durban - A man whose wife and daughter were
injured when an allegedly drunk policeman drove into their car, says he will
stop at nothing until the policeman is imprisoned.
The Mercury reported on Friday that the police car hit the back of Austin Steyn's vehicle at an intersection in Durban's Point area on Sunday.
Steyn, 41, said his car somersaulted three times. His daughter Courtney, 7, was flung out of the vehicle and slammed into a building. His wife, Lisa, had to have an operation on her neck.
The policeman at the wheel of the police car was so drunk he could not even walk, Steyn said.
Police at the scene did a breathalyser test and found he was over the limit. A blood test was also taken at St Augustine's Hospital.
To make matters worse, Steyn's laptop, camera, cellphone and the cash and credit cards in his wallet were stolen by people he thought had rushed over to assist them. Some, however, helped the family until paramedics arrived.
"I have hired two lawyers and I will make sure that the policeman goes to jail,” Steyn told the newspaper.
Police Captain ThulaniZwane said that charges of drunken driving and reckless and negligent driving were being investigated.
