Pretoria - Police have identified the two
officers who allegedly took naked pictures of Marina Kloppers, 23, a marketing
consultant from Pretoria.
Colonel Sivanandan Moodley, station commander of the Pretoria West police station, where the case was referred, confirmed on Wednesday that the officers who allegedly indecently assaulted Kloppers in this way, worked in his police station.
He said the case was being investigated and would not give any more details.
Kloppers, a part-time model, said two police officers had forced her and a friend, Charise de Wit, 22, from the road on the morning of July 21 in Mayville, Pretoria, after De Wit ignored a red traffic light.
The police officers apparently threw both women in the police van and later took them to the Laudium clinic in Pretoria for blood tests.
Forced her to undress
This was where the police officers apparently forced Kloppers to undress and then took pictures of her naked after she complained to a nurse that police had assaulted her.
She was then taken to the Pretoria West police cells where she fell into a diabetic coma as police apparently refused her medical treatment.
Faith Mazibuko, the Gauteng MEC for community safety, on Wednesday condemned the incident, especially as it happened in Women’s Month.
Mazibuko said she was upset and disappointed about the alleged misconduct. Her department was waiting for the results of the police investigation into the allegations.
“If the allegations are true, I expect tough action against the police officials,” said Mazibuko.
The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) on Wednesday said it had not yet received a complaint from Kloppers.
ICD spokesperson Moses Dlamini said he didn’t know of such a case being reported to the ICD.
The allegations could only be investigated once a charge had been laid, he said.
