WHITE RIVER – Just a few days after the provincial prayer day against crime in the police sector, a 44-year-old police officer has been arrested in connection with rape of a pensioner 22 years his senior.
The incident happened on Sunday evening after the 66-year-old woman came to the local police station to lay a complaint, but instead of being offered help, the official who was on duty, allegedly took her to one of the offices where he apparently touched her body before allowing her to go.
According to police information, the officer apparently followed the woman in a police vehicle, stopped for her and took her to a plantation near Numbi Road where he allegedly raped her.
After the rape he dropped her off on her way home.
“The woman then went back to the station where she was assisted by other officers to open a rape charge against the officer, who was arrested on the same night at his home,” said Sgt Gerald Sedibe.
“The officer was granted R1 000 bail and the matter was postponed for further investigations and DNA results to
August 27,” he said.
