At least the unclear crimen injuria charges against Beverley Robertson, 48, and her son, 28, had been dropped. They were made by the alleged JMPD men after the whole ordeal on the roadside on Friday 30 January. Appearing in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday (2 February), Robertson is finally able to speak out.

Initially, the record reported on events as told by her daughter in a post on facebookin which she pleads for witnesses to come forward. During the Robertsons’ assault on Peter Road on Friday night many motorists had apparently stopped to take photos and even video footage.

The record is in possession of a sound clip in which she details her experience with the wayward officers. Robertson said that nothing was abnormal about them being asked to pull their Volvo to the side of the road.

“I didn’t expect much else since the vehicle was missing a front registration plate at the time,” she said.

They gave their cooperation, according to her account, but a curse word uttered out of frustration at the delay in their travels caused one of the cops to terrorise her son. She said that her son was yanked from the vehicle and being terrorised when she tried to step in.

“My son has medical conditions and I didn’t want the situation to escalate as high stress levels can cause him diabetic shock,” she told the record.

After interrupting Robertson was reportedly brutalised, handcuffed and dragged down Peter Road where she and her son were eventually thrown into a van. The pair spend a good few hours in cells at the Roodepoort Police Station and were let go without posting bail. Robertson said that she was terrified of approaching the Honeydew Police, to whom they were initially taken, about the matter since she suspects corruption.
She proceeded to open a case with the Roodepoort Police.
