Cop accused of raping teen granted bail
20 July 2013 9:24

A police officer accused of raping a 14-year-old girl was granted bail by the Paarl Magistrate’s Court in the Western Cape.
SABC news reported yesterday the 41-year-old officer was released on R1 500 bail, on condition that he does not contact the alleged victim, her family or members of his church.
The court found there was not enough evidence to deny him bail after the State indicated he might interfere in the investigation, SABC reported.
The officer has been suspended from the police and from pastoral duties at his church.
The officer allegedly raped the girl several times in April. He faces four counts of rape. The crimes were reported to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate on July 9 and the officer was arrested the following day.
The officer has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The case was postponed to August 6.
