Crimes of the South African Police Service

Not a cop in sight at ‘ghost’ SA police station
By Staff WriterJuly 29, 2015
A new video has been posted by Facebook user Andre Botha, showing how an active South African police station has been left open with no police officers in sight.
The video shows what appears to be Assen police station in Brits, North West Province, standing empty with no police in any of the rooms, despite the station having people inside waiting to be assisted.
In the brief tour, the camera person describes in Afrikaans that the radio and telephones are not being attended to, and quips that they could just pop in and “steal a few guns”.
Earlier in July, the premises of the national crime intelligence unit were broken into by thieves who made off with a safe and guns.
The South African Police Service has come under scrutiny in recent months following reports of millions of rands being wasted on an unused station in Diepsloot, Gauteng.
The station is estimated to cost over R100 million, yet remains empty and incomplete.
