Cops arrested for corruption

A Limpopo police captain and constable were arrested after allegedly accepting a bribe and illegally handing a firearm back to the man it was confiscated from.

The man, William Ramonetha Madidimalo, was found guilty of negligent handling of a firearm in 2005 by the Sekgosese Magistrate's Court in Limpopo and was declared unfit to ever possess a firearm again.
The constable was made responsible for the firearm's safe keeping, said Lieutenant Colonel Mohale Ramatseba. That same year the captain ordered that the weapon be handed over to him and then gave it back to Madidimalo in exchange for R2500.
"Madidimalo was arrested on Tuesday and the firearm was recovered," Ramatseba said.
This led to the arrest of the two policemen on Friday who will soon appear in court on charges of corruption, defeating the ends of justice, contravention of the firearms control act and contempt of court.
