Cape Town – Two Nyanga police officers have been arrested for their suspected involvement in a house robbery, Western Cape police said on Tuesday.
One of them was on duty on Monday morning when he was handcuffed, while the other was arrested at his home, said Constable Noloyiso Rwexana.
She said the arrests were made by members of the provincial organised crime unit.
The house robbery occurred in Retreat in November last year.
The police were not willing to provide further information on the incident, including what was taken or whether weapons were involved. They said these details would be released in court.
Both officers, in their forties, were set to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Rwexana said the arrests showed that police management was unequivocal in its quest to "rid itself of bad elements within its ranks".
