Durban – Police in KwaZulu-Natal are searching for three dangerous criminals who escaped from police holding cells on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said the men escaped from the Bellair police holding cells.
Naicker said: “Police officers did their routine-check at the police cells when they discovered that Vusi Gumede, Bheki Nkosi and Siya Dlamini had escaped. The detainees allegedly dig a hole on the wall of the cell.”
“Gumede was arrested for murder, Nkosi was detained for possession of firearm and Dlamini was arrested for possession of stolen property,” Naicker said.
“A case of escaping from lawful custody has been opened at Bellair police station for investigation. These criminals are dangerous and we plead with the community not to try to apprehend them but contact the police as soon as possible.”
Bellair police can be contacted on 031 451 2826 or any nearest police station and Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni condemned the escaping of the detainees, saying:
“We will make sure that we catch and arrest these criminals, we will use all our resources and expertise to put them behind bars so that they can face the consequences of their actions.”
