JOHANNESBURG – A woman who was raped, allegedly by a warrant officer stationed at the Ekangala police station in Bronkhorstspruit, has told Eyewitness News how she was allegedly raped at a dumpsite by a police officer.

Salome Mabena went to the station to open a case of abuse against her husband.

A few months after opening the case, the officer investigating it went to her house and asked her to go with him to the police station to clarify some issues.

He however took her to a dumping site, where he allegedly threatened her with a gun and raped her.

Mabena says she was too afraid to report the case to the police station in her area because that is where her alleged rapist works.

She says she laid a charge at the Bronkhorstspruit police station a day after the incident.

Mabena claims that while she was there, she heard the officer who was taking her statement warn her alleged rapist over the phone.

She says when she arrived at home later, her children told her the warrant officer was there and was looking for her.

“He came after I opened the case against him. He told my kids it was not an issue, because it was consensual.”
Mabena says she opened a case with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, but the case was never taken to court and the officer still works in her area.

She says she wants her identity known, as she needs to speak out.
