Crimes of the South African Police Service

On 15 November 2009, the Sunday Times reported a delay in the prosecution of police officers who allegedly abducted, raped, and abandoned Martie Olivier.

Olivier’s husband Sarel was arrested for a traffic violation on 24th October 2009. He was taken to Kempton Park Police Station in a police van. A policeman took Sarel’s place behind the steering wheel next to the latter’s wife. Following Sarel’s release 30 minutes after arriving at the station, his wife told him that she had been raped. Apart from Olivier’s bleeding, her lawyer stated that medical reports indicated she had been raped.
