Woman raped at police station

Cape Town - A policeman has been arrested after the rape of a woman in
Herbertsdale in the Western Cape, the Independent Police Investigative
Directorate (Ipid) said on Thursday.
The 52-year-old constable, based at Kwanonqaba police station, was taken
into custody on Wednesday, Ipid spokesman Moses Dlamini said.
Dlamini said he allegedly raped the woman, 49, on the premises of
Herbertsdale satellite police station when she went there to report domestic
violence on February 15.
“After (he) listened to her complaint, he locked the front door of the
station and took the victim by force to the trauma room, where he pulled her
pants down and raped her,” he said.
The woman reported the matter at the same satellite police station the
following day.
The officer who was on duty at the time told her to go home, and said
police officers would be sent to her house.
“The victim waited for the police, but to no avail, and she then
reported the incident to the local councillor,” said Dlamini.
The Ipid was informed about the incident on Tuesday, and the constable
was arrested the next day.
He would appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court on Friday on a
charge of rape. - Sapa
