Upington
– Two police officers accused of raping a woman while off-duty were both
released on bail in the Upington Magistrate's Court on Thursday, the
Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said.
The 20-year-old woman, from
Rosedale, apparently asked them for a lift to town on Monday, said IPID
spokesperson, Moses Dlamini.
The woman apparently informed
both of them afterwards that she intended to report her ordeal to the police.
One of them is alleged to have begged her not to report it.
"When she did not
relent, the constable drove the victim to Paballelo SAPS, where the matter was
reported.
"The victim was taken to
the hospital where she was examined by a doctor," said Dlamini.
The men, stationed at Nakop
Port of Entry and Kenhardy SAPS, were arrested on Wednesday.
When they appeared in court
on Thursday, they were both released on R1 000 bail.
Dlamini said the matter was
postponed until June 26 for further investigation.
