JOHANNESBURG - Alexandra residents on Monday threatened to take to the streets in protest following an alleged incident of police brutality in the township last week.
A 21-year-old woman, Aphiwe Zweni, was allegedly beaten by officers on Wednesday after she was questioned about her boyfriend's possible criminal activities.
The young mother subsequently died on Thursday.

A woman who claimed she saw the attack voiced her outrage at the police’s behaviour.

“I am so pissed off. Policeman are the people that are supposed to protect us.”

Community members vowed to support the Zweni family in seeking justice.

“I can’t stand for this - this [incident] is nonsense.”

The
Independent Police Investigative Directorate says a probe into Zweni’s death is underway.

An identification parade and post-mortem will be complete soon.
