Police constable faces RAPE charges

Spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) Moses Dlamini said they were investigating a 33-year-old constable accused of raping his 19-year-old sister-in-law.
The policeman was arrested on February 19 following a preliminary investigation by Ipid, Dlamini said.
Dlamini said during the course of their investigations they discovered the suspect was out on bail on another charge of attempted rape.
“Ipid will oppose bail,” Dlamini said.
He said it was alleged that the police constable stationed in Ga-Rankuwa raped his sister-in-law in the early hours of February 13 at his place of residence.
“The allegations are that the suspect asked her to visit his house as her sister would be away at work on February 12.
“The victim was supposed to assist with house chores and to look after the children while her elder sister was away.
“It is alleged that the victim was sleeping in a separate room with two children aged two and five in the early hours of the morning when the suspect came into the room and took the children away,” said Dlamini.
He said the suspect apparently indicated to the victim that he didn’t want the children to inconvenience her, in case they needed to relieve themselves while she was sleeping.
It is further alleged that after a while the suspect returned to the room where the victim was sleeping and raped her.
He made his first appearance in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
