Three suspects awaiting trial for murder escaped from prison in
Queenstown, Eastern Cape, over the weekend, said the Department of Correctional
Services in a statement on Monday.
The suspects, Siyabonga Maqungo, Anele Baraza, and Mziyanda Muleka, escaped
at about 9:30am on Saturday. They were arrested on 10 June in connection with a
murder in Tsolo, 42 kilometres from Mthatha.
“The department is conducting an investigation to find out how the trio
escaped,” it said.
A case of escape from lawful custody was opened and the department was
working with police to re-arrest the suspects.
